Michael Jackson to be buried amongst the stars

Two months after his death, Michael Jackson is to be buried on Thursday in a private sunset ceremony that will see the "King of Pop" laid to rest alongside a galaxy of Hollywood stars. The tragic pop music icon, whose mysterious June 25 death was ruled a homicide by city officials last week, will be interred in an elaborate mausoleum at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the suburb of Glendale. Only close family and friends of Jackson will be in attendance for the event, in stark contrast to the star-studded public memorial held at Los Angeles's Staples Center in July attended by 20,000 mourners. Several streets surrounding the entrance to the cemetery in Glendale will be closed in an effort to keep fans at bay, police said. Jackson is to be interred at a 7:00 pm (0200 GMT Friday) ceremony inside the cemetery's massive Great Mausoleum, an elaborate neo-classical building inspired by Genoa's famous Campo Santo. Jackson's gold-plated casket is to be placed in a private section of the mausoleum that is also home to the final resting places of famous names from Hollywood's golden age such as Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Carole Lombard. The cemetery also boasts a stunning recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" in stained glass. Other entertainment icons buried at Forest Lawn include Humphrey Bogart, Lon Chaney, Nat King Cole, Walt Disney, Errol Flynn and Jimmy Stewart.

Madonna performs for 50,000 in Tel Aviv

Hayarkon Park was transformed into a lavish Las Vegas showroom Tuesday night, as Madonna brought her Sticky&Sweet show to Tel Aviv for the first of two concerts marking the end of her world tour. By early in the afternoon the area surrounding the park had begun to take on a festive atmosphere, as hundreds of fans of the American icon waited outside the gate for the 5:30 pm opening, in order to nab prime standing room. It turned out the fans had to wait until 9:22 p.m., when Madonna and crew hit the stage to a sea of lit cellphones, following an innocuous 45-minute electro-dance mashup by DJ Paul Oakenfield. Madonna wraps up her worldwide tour with a final concert at Hayarkon Park on Wednesday night.

Oscars to have a different voting for best picture

The voting system, which will determine the winner of the best picture at this year's Oscars is being changed, it has been announced. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said preferential voting will now be used to tally the final vote for the award. Voters will be asked to rank nominees in order of preference from 1 to 10. In all other categories, the victory goes to the performer who earns the most votes. The new system for tallying vote for best picture is the same preferential voting system that the Academy uses in its nominating process. However, this is the first time it has been introduced for best picture voting since 1945. The voting process has been adapted to accommodate the new picture shortlist, which has been increased to allow 10 films into the category, instead of five. This will enable the members to indicate their second, third and further preferences as well. The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on February 02, at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
